Spring Cleaning

Springtime is here!  Many of us have already started the winter clean-up.  There are a few things to consider when planning your projects.  Deed restrictions influence most of what you do with your property.  Below are some of the most common items items related to deed restrictions that are overlooked during the spring clean up.

1. Trash cans and bags - All trash cans and bags must be kept out of view on non-trash pick-up days.  Be sure you are using the compostable bags, required bu the City to dispose of lawn clippings.

2. Recreational vehicles - Boats, motor homes and trailers can not be stored on your property in public view for an extended period of time.  Please do not park them in the street either as they pose a potential traffic hazard.

3. Sidewalks - These should be kept in good condition and are the responsibility of the homeowner to maintain.  Repairing or replacement of a sidewalk requires MACC approval.

4. Exterior Work - ALL exterior maintenance or changes made on your property require written approval by the MACC before work begins.  Some examples are:

  • Painting the exterior of your home (even if it is the same color)
  • Replacing siding or fascia
  • Replacing or repairing your roof
  • Installing or repairing a pool or surrounding decking
  • Closing in a garage to create living space or installing a carport
  • Installing new windows
  • Installing an outdoor living space, patio or covered area.
  • Installing, repairing or replacing a fence or installation of a gate across your driveway.

All Meyerland residents are required to conform to their deed restrictions in order to preserve the character and attractiveness of the neighborhood.

Construction forms and deed restrictions for your property are available here on our website.  If you have questions or concerns about the restrictions for your section or the application process for Architectural Control, contact the office at 713-729-2167.

Need a Contractor?

Many homeowner's have come to us lately and requested names of contractors for the improvements they are planning to do on their homes.  MCIA is aware of some contractors working in the area, but we currently do not maintain a list of them that we can make available.

The Meyerland Community Improvement Association is not affiliated with, nor does it recommend or endorse ANY contractor.

When selecting a contractor for any type of work, please take steps to properly check them out.  We recommend that you:

  1. Ask for and verify references.
  2. Check with the Better Business Bureau for any unresolved complaints and a record of the company.
  3. Get competitive bids!

Remember that it is your responsibility, not your contractor, to submit and obtain approvals from the Architectural Control Committee and the proper construction permits from the City of Houston.  They may be willing to provide this service to you, but please follow up to make sure it is done before you begin work.
