Heavy Trash schedules have changed |
|
Effective November 1, 2012, the monthly heavy trash (tree waste/junk waste) pickup date for all of Meyerland has changed to the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Tree waste and junk waste collection will still occur in alternating months, odd-numbered months for tree waste (January, March, May, July, September and November) and even-numbered months for junk waste (February, April, June, August, October and December), but on the new heavy trash (tree waste/junk waste) pickup day which is the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Please note that collection day schedules for other Solid Waste services such as garbage, yard trimmings and recycling collection WILL NOT change.
The service date change aims to to achieve the following:
- Less confusion with neighborhood collection schedules
- A single service day for major community areas
- Easier to read/interpret service maps for customers and 311 operators
- Easier management of routes
- Budget savings in fuel and maintenance
- Greater availability for department support for community-based beautification projects
You will receive reminders by mail from the Solid Waste Management Department about your new heavy trash (tree waste/junk waste) pickup day. Remember, this change only affects your heavy trash (tree waste/junk waste) service day. All other trash collection schedules remain the same

City of Houston Repairs and Improvements |
|
There are several infrastructure improvement projects affecting Meyerland that are currently in the planning stage, so here is an update of what is known.
Future Projects: S. Braeswood between Milbury and Braesmont We have received reports from Council Member Ellen Cohen's office that sewer repair work will commence soon. The latest information we have indicates that the project will begin mid-July and continue until September of this year, but the exact dates of construction are not known. Be prepared for possible detours during the construction.
Sidewalks along S. Rice, North of N. Braeswood Some sidewalks on the Northbound side of S. Rice between N. Braeswood and Jason have already been replaced. Surveyors have completed work for the potential replacement of sidewalks between Jason and Beechnut. The exact time frame of this project is unknown and is currently awaiting funding.
Properties located in Section 4, 7 and 8 South Residents of Section 4, 7 and 8 South may have seen surveyors in the area recently. This is in preparation for a City of Houston Capital Improvement project that is currently in the planning stage. The exact scope of the project is not known and has not been fully approved and/or funded. It may involve replacement of sewer lines, street repair and sidewalks. If approved, the project is not scheduled to begin until 2014.
Properties located in Section 10 Residents in Section 10 may have seen surveyors in the area recently. This is being done for a feasability study for a possible City of Houston Capital Improvement project. The exact scope of the project is not known and has not been fully approved and/or funded. It may involve replacement of sewer lines, street repair and sidewalks. A start date is not known.
As soon as we can confirm accurate information about the construction dates and scope of the above mentioned projects we will update the information here. |

In December, the MCIA Board of Directors sent a letter to the residents of Meyerland to update them on the activities related to the proposed project at St. John's Presbyterian Church. Additionally, information is offered about the possible future of the Meyer Branch of the Houston Public Library due to the approval of the City of Houston Bond in November.
The letter should be in homes the week of December 10. A copy is available here. |

MCIA opposes St. John's/PCHAS housing project |
|
On Monday, August 13, 2012, the MCIA Board of Directors announced the following position:
The MCIA Board of Directors formally opposes the multi-family, multi-unit housing project that is planned by St. John's Presbyterian Church (SJPC) in conjunction with the Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services (PCHAS) because the development does not preserve the established character of the Meyerland subdivision. The MCIA Board has reached this position as a result of community concern, sense of urgency, and a lack of formal project specifications being provided by PCHAS. The Board is committed to establishing and maintaining an ongoing dialog with SJPC and PCHAS.
