Meyerland - the Changing Face of Houston

The Houston Press has been publishing a series of articles on significant residential neighborhoods in Houston.

Recently, Meyerland was the subject of one of these articles. It provides a brief history of Meyerland's beginnings when founded by George Meyer and the ribbon-cutting by then-Vice President Richard Nixon.

Meyerland's many virtues are noted, not the least of which is the close proximity to downtown which remains one of the features that keeps the neighborhood attractive to the many new residents who are tearing down older homes in favor of new ones.

Even the "Hero Tree" memorial that stands in dedication to Captain Gary L. Herod, the namesake of one of our local elementary schools gets a special mention.

You can read the entire article on the Houston Press website.

National Night Out 2014

National Neighbors Night out will take place for Houstonians on October 7, 2014. During the evening, families all across Houston will gather at homes on their street to meet, talk, share and enjoy each other’s company. Many parties occur in Meyerland as well. If you are hosting a party or have further questions, please contact the Meyerland office at 713-729-2167 or email the MCIA office so that we can post your party on our website. Also, contact Elizabeth Black Berry at 713-459-5878 or email her as well as visiting www.sugarbunchcandybuffets.com for great party ideas. Don’t forget to register with the national organization at www.nno.org to show your support for the program.
