Flood Information and Resource Night

The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC is sponsoring a Flood Information and Resource Night that is hosted by Brith Shalom  located at 4610 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, Texas 77401.
The event will be held on Wednesday, September 27th 7-8:15pm.

FREE Panel Presentation with Q&A

The ERJCC is coordinating an informational night for homeowners whose homes were damaged in the flood. Professionals with experience in navigating this process will be available as well as representatives from:

  • Small Business Administration
  • FEMA
  • Jewish Family Services
  • Insurance and financial experts
  • Contractor that specializes in remodel and design in Meyerland and Bellaire

The goal is to provide homeowners with information to assist in making informed decisions regarding renovations and critical next steps.

Disaster Recovery Resource Expo

The office of John Culberson will be hosting a disaster recovery resource expo for constituents that have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Representatives from FEMA and the Small Business Administration will give presentations and help answer questions about the claims process.

Brays Bayou Association Flood Forum Cancelled

Brays Bayou Association Flood Forum Cancelled for Tuesday, September 19th to be rescheduled 

MCIA has been notified that due to newly surfacing obligations, the speakers scheduled for the Tuesday, September 19th Brays Bayou Association Flood Forum will be unable to attend. Our appreciation goes out to Steve Costello and Russ Poppe for their desire and attempt to uphold their commitment to participate in our previously scheduled "Flood Forum," even in the face of such a demanding situation they found themselves in due to Harvey.

They have asked not to cancel, but to postpone. The Brays Bayou Association will reschedule as soon as possible and hope you can be part of that event.

Brays Bayou Association "Special Meeting"

The Brays Bayou Association "Special Meeting" scheduled for tonight, Friday the 15th at 7:00 at The Gathering Place, 5310 South Willow Drive is proceeding as scheduled.  The BBA is an appointed member of the Harris County Flood Control Task Force (an advisory board to HCFCD and Harris County Commissioner's Court) and is a Bayou Preservation Association Bayou Watershed Representative for the Brays Watershed.  We want to hear from you regarding anything that you feel is important, so we can take it back to the above mentioned entities with emphasis.


DPS Mobile Location at MCIA Office

The Texas Department of Safety will be setting up their mobile location at the MCIA office to assist Meyerland area residents with the replacement of lost or damaged Texas drivers licenses and state ID’s.  As thoughtfully coordinated by our State Representative, Sarah Davis, DPS will office out of our location Wednesday and Thursday this week (September 13-14) from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

This service is available for those who have a valid Texas drivers license or state ID, or whose license or ID has been expired for less than 24 months.

The MCIA office is located at 4999 West Bellfort Houston, TX 77035.

Kolter Update

HISD announced Thursday, Aug. 31, that HISD staff will return to schools to begin work on Tuesday, September 5th. Teachers will return for a work day on Friday, September 8. The first day of school for all students has been set for Monday, September 11.

There has been NO OFFICIAL word from HISD regarding the specific status of Kolter Elementary or its start date. The message below is an excerpt from what was shared from the Kolter Principal on Friday, Sept 1 (before 9:20am).

As we head into our first post Harvey weekend, I have a couple of quick updates: 

Uniforms and Meals: 

Students will not be required to dress in school uniforma attire during this first semested. We will revisit the uniform topic in January. All HISD students will be provided three, free meals a day for the coming year. More information around Houston's ISD meal plan can be found on the HISD website. 

Back to School (this is important):

As stated by the distric yesterday, all students are to return to school Monday, September 11. As of right now, right this minute, I have heard nothing about our campus being moved elsewhere or our students being split among campuses that have availability. Since I have heard NOTHING about that, I would advise that we move forward with that mindset. I had said over and over this week that my goal is to have our family back together, on our campus, for this school year. It remains my goal and priority going forward. The building did have significant impacts, but there has been a team of 50+ people there drying it out, cleaning it our and getting ready for our return. I have also promised that when and it information changes, gets updated or is of immediate significance, I will tell you. As I return to work this coming Monday, myself and my leadership team will be moving forwad with this above plan in place.

Also note that TEA has offered a waiver of all missed school days through September 1. Any additional missed days are evaluated on a per district basis. This means that HISD must apply for the waiver and these days will not need to be made up during the school year.
